Backing creativity with the Arts Council

I believe strongly that the arts matter.
Not just to artists, but to the health, identity and culture of our island as a whole. I’ve seen first-hand how access to funding, opportunity and encouragement has shaped the creative experiences of so many talented local people.
In 2024, I was pleased to be appointed as a member of the Isle of Man Arts Council. Since then, I’ve been able to support the Council’s work in championing creative activity. We help make funding and support available for people at every stage, from those testing an idea for the first time to experienced artists developing their next work.
A big part of my focus has been music and performing arts (“MaPa”). As an active member of the MaPa panel, I love how we back our local musicians and performers. It is a real privilege to meet artists, hear what they are trying to achieve, and help remove barriers where we can.
A highlight of my time so far has been celebrating the Arts Council’s 60th Anniversary.
Throughout 2025, we supported a wide range of events and projects, from performances and creative programmes to public artworks that brought culture into shared spaces across the island. Notably, the ‘Museum of the Moon’ at Peel Cathedral was visited by over 18,000 people!
It has been my privilege to support talented Manx creatives, encourage new work to take shape, and ensure we keep our arts community thriving.
I’m proud to play even a small part in championing the arts and culture that make our Island a great place to create.
